The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) enforcement program, CSA, is in its second year and, like any two year-old, is continuing to grow and change. Already many severity weights have been adjusted, power unit utilization factors incorporated, new disclaimer and accuracy language added, and two of the seven BASICs removed from public view on the horizon will be a recalibration of the Cargo BASIC, new treatment for HazMat, and a Safety Fitness determination rule making. The Compliance, Safety, Accountability program “scores” may just be prioritization indicators to FMCSA for possible interventions, but to insurance companies, brokers, shippers, competitors and lawyers they are a measure of your company and how you should be treated.
Motor carriers must pay attention to CSA and CSA scores, even as the program evolves. Tackling this moving target will be Steve Bryan, Founder and CEO of Vigillo, LLC. Bryan will outline the “state of play” in CSA, highlight trends and surprising revelations, and look at the increasingly important question of how drivers impact CSA scores.
